AP starts GEF project for agri biodiversity
 Andhra Pradesh has been selected for the global environment facility (GEF) project as part of a memorandum of understanding entered by the Union ministry of forest, environment and climate change back in 2022.
The GEF project — entitled ‘transforming agricultural systems and strengthening local economies in high biodiversity areas of India through sustainable landscape management and public-private finance’ — has so far begun in five districts of the state. This will be consequently extended to 16 districts.
Rainforest Alliance will be the lead executing agency for the project, in partnership with the state government, Rythu Sadhikara Samstha (RySS), and local civil society organisations. United Nations Environment Programme and International Union for Conservation of Nature are the implementing agencies.

UAE to Host World’s Largest Conservation Conference in 2025
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has emerged victorious in the bid to host the prestigious World Conservation Congress (WCC) in 2025. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has chosen Abu Dhabi as the venue for this momentous event. The WCC, renowned as the world’s largest gathering of conservationists, is expected to attract over 10,000 delegates from more than 160 countries. Taking place from October 10-21, 2025, the conference will serve as a critical platform for global environmentalists to address pressing challenges and formulate innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
 
World Environment Day 2023
World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year to raise awareness and encourage action for the protection of our planet. It was first established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, and since then, over 150 countries participate in various activities to celebrate this day. World Environment Day is an important day to raise awareness and encourage action for the protection of our planet.
As the largest global platform for environmental public outreach, World Environment Day has been celebrated by millions of people across the world since its establishment by the United Nations Environment Programme during the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment in 1972.
The UNEP has called for greater efforts to limit waste and transition to a circular economy, as well as releasing a Beat Plastic Pollution Practical Guide and encouraging social media posts under the hashtag BeatPlasticPollution.

PM-Kisan Scheme: Empowering Indian Farmers for a Resilient Agriculture Sector
At Pathikonda in Kurnool district, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, provided financial aid to farmers for the fifth consecutive year through the YSR Rythu Bharosa-PM Kisan program. In this year’s initial installment, CM Jagan distributed a total of Rs 3,923.21 crore to 52,30,939 farmers.
 
Consequently, each farmer received Rs 5,500 directly into their bank accounts from the YSRCP state government, in addition to an extra Rs 2,000 from the Centre as a component of the PM Kisan Yojana.
 
 
NIRF Ranking 2023: IIT Madras retains gets top spot
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras has retained the top spot in the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF), 2023 for the fifth consecutive year, while the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru has been ranked as the best university, according to the Ministry of Education. IISc Bengaluru has bagged the second spot in the “overall” category followed by IIT Delhi.
India’s 1st International Cruise Vessel MV Empress Flagged Off
 
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal has flagged off the maiden International Cruise Vessel “MV Empress”, India’s first international cruise vessel – from Chennai to Sri Lanka in Chennai. This marks the beginning of the international cruise tourism terminal at Chennai, built at a cost of Rs 17.21 crores, heralding a new age of cruise tourism and maritime trade in the country.
The launch of the MV Empress is a major boost for cruise tourism in India. The country has a long coastline and a rich history and culture, which make it an attractive destination for cruise passengers. The MV Empress is expected to attract tourists from India and abroad, and to help boost the local economy
