Andhra surpasses Bihar, tops nation in Covid recovery rate

Andhra Pradesh topped the country in terms of Covid-19 recoveries with over 94.4% recovery rate by surpassing Bihar (94.3%).

Only a few states/Union territories have achieved over 90 per cent recovery rate, including Chandigarh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. AP, which has the second-highest caseload in the country after Maharashtra, has witnessed a significant drop in new infections and increase in discharge numbers in the last 45 days.

The recovery rate remained under 50% before it crossed the same benchmark on August 1 due to the opening of state borders and lifting of restrictions on commercial activities as part of the unlocking process.

Andhra Pradesh first breached the daily 10,000-case milestone on July 29. Since then, the case total hovered around 8,000-10,000 range before it fell below the 8,000 daily case range by September 20. This has further come down to 4,000 to 6,000 range in the last 10 days.

The stabilisation trend for the last two months led to improvement in recovery rate to 70% by August 17, 80% by September 8 and over 90% on September 29, making AP top the country in terms of recovery rate.
