IIM Vizag to host sustainability conclave on April 20

TheNational Productivity Councilof the Union ministry of commerce and industry and Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam will organise the Sustainability Conclave on Productivity and Green Growth atIIM Visakhapatnamon April 20.Indian Potash Limited(IPL) is supporting the conclave as an industry partner.

The Union government committed to reach its non-fossil energy capacity to 500 GW by 2030 and ultimately achieve net zero emissions by 2070. “Lifestyle for Environment or LiFE, as declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Glasgow on the sidelines of COP26, is indicative of all-inclusive green growth. According to experts, this can only be possible only through sustainable practices, resource efficiency, and renewable energy sources.

Green growth envisions a future with environmentally sustainable and equitable economic growth, resource security, healthy environment, and restored ecosystems with rich ecology and biodiversity. According to experts, productivity and green growth issues are highly relevant to the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Rural housing under flagship scheme rises 25% in FY23

In the financial year of 2022-23, India has constructed 5.28 million houses as part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), a rural housing initiative, which represents a 25% increase from the previous year. The country aims to build 5.73 million houses under this program to achieve the overall goal of constructing 29.5 million houses, thereby fulfilling the objective of providing housing for all by the end of the financial year 2023-24.

Madhya Pradesh is currently the largest beneficiary of the scheme with 3.42 million houses constructed in the state, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 3.21 million and Jharkhand with 1.52 million. The government intends to bring forward the deadline for fulfilling the target under the housing for all initiative in rural India by three months to December 2023

The Central government has approved the construction of 28.6 million houses, out of which 23.8 million have been constructed across various states and Union territories. In most states, the Centre bears 60% of the construction cost under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), while the state governments cover the remaining costs. However, for hilly and north-eastern states, the Centres contribution increases to 90%, and for Union territories, it rises to 100%

Central Government notified the Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023

The Central government has recently issued the Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023, which are designed to comply with the guidelines set by the Supreme Court in a writ petition involving the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) and the People for Elimination of Stray Troubles. The Supreme Court had issued several orders emphasizing that the relocation of dogs was not permissible

The rules mandate the implementation of Animal Birth Control programmes for stray dogs by local bodies, municipalities, municipal corporations, and panchayats.

Effective implementation of the rules can help reduce the stray dog population and address animal welfare issues.

NEs largest multipurpose indoor stadium being built in Shillong

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced that a multipurpose indoor stadium is currently under construction in Shillong, which is set to become the largest of its kind in the northeastern region. The Chief Minister also revealed that the stadium will offer state-of-the-art facilities for various disciplines, including basketball, squash, badminton, table tennis, volleyball, and many more

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma visited the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Polo ground in Shillong to inspect the ongoing renovation, upgradation and expansion of the facility.

The renovated stadium will include a football ground with natural grass turf and a state-of-the-art facility for hosting track and field events.

Sangma emphasized the high quality standards being maintained in the construction, ensuring that the stadium will be fit to host international sporting events.

The renovated stadium is expected to have a seating capacity of almost 30,000 and is slated for completion by December 2022

National Goddess Ganga Cleansing Mission

Namami Gange Programme (NMCG) was introduced by the Jal Shakti Ministry. Along with this, several other missions have also been launched.

For worth Rs 638 crore, the Clean Ganga mission will be implemented across many districts. While Hindon River Rejuvenation Programme will be taken in the Saharanpur district.

Eight projects have been approved for Clean Ganga and four projects worth Rs 407 crore for the Hindon River.
